Trouble with .wmv files since upgrading to 10.4.3 |
|
|
Since the purchase of my new iMac G5 running OS X 10.4.3 I have had
trouble with .wmv files.
I get a message as the file launches that reads:
This file may not play correctly because it was compressed by using a
codec that is not supported.
The video will often play, but there is no sound.
Is there anything I can do to correct the problem?
Thanks.

Harri,
I guess I don't understand your response... Windows PC or VPC with
Windows XP. When running my old G4 mac and OS X 10.2.8, I never had
any problems viewing .wmv files. With my new iMac G5 running 10.4.3
I'm having trouble with the audio.

I too am seeing this problem on a PowerBook G4 running OS X 10.4.3. It
was
initially working after I installed it for the first time, but on
Monday, I downloaded
Audiocity application and installed it for some visualization work I am
doing.
When I went back to run a .wmv file (even the test .wmv sample in the
same
folder) it fails with the above message. I have since uninstalled
Audiocity and
re-installed Windows Media Player, but it still displays that message.
Thanks,

Same problem here. WMP was working just fine until I connected via VPN to my
work network and selected a WAV file to play. after returning to my mac i
tried to use WMP to listen to live radio and it refuses to play. I downloaded
WMP again but nothing. I cannot even play the example file that comes with
WMP. I tried watching video files on the BBC and i get no sound!!!!! The only
thing that changed bertween the WMP working and not working was that I
downloaded and used Adobe Audition on my PC at work. So i think that when I
VPNed to the netweork at work somehow it messed up my Mac. Is that possible?
I tried unistalling and installing WMP again and again (including all pref
files). but problem pesists. Any help? Thanks
