..asx files are simple pointers towards streaming content. Open the file
in a text editor (even TextEdit) and you'll see the structure of the
file and the links it points towards. You can copy these links and use
them directly in VLC or WMP (Open URL...).
If the codecs used in the streams is not supported by either app, then
you're out of luck :-\
