Nothing will play off the web. |
|
|
System Information:
Windows XP Professional Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm.04803-2158:
Service Pack 2)
Windows Media Player 10.00.003646
Problem:
After updating to version 10 of WMP (from version 9)I am unable to watch or
listen to anything on the web. If I go to MSN and click to play a preview of
a song nothing happens. If I go to Atom Films and try to watch a film I get
the commercial lead-in but the movie never starts. When I go to Yahoo Launch
and try to listen to a radio station I get the error code 14-C00D10B5. When
trying to launch an internet radio station I get the message "Windows Media
Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on a removable storage
card, insert the storage card."
Music and movies on my hard drive run fine.
I am always connected to the internet through a cable modem. I have tried
all the things listed above with the firewall turned on and off and I see no
difference. I have checked the "Connect to the internet" box in WMP and
nothing changed.
This is driving me nuts. Can someone please give me some help.

Figured it out |
|
|
This may be late in coming but I recently had this same issue and the only "help" I got by Googleing sent me to this forum.
Launchcast will only play on IE browsers. I use a Yahoo based browser.
Anyway, What I had to do was update to the most current version of WMP (9.0) as I was using a VERY old version (6.something). After that, I cleared my cache and all that jazz, rebooted, and disabled pop-up blocker.
Before, I did all of the above without updating the WMP and it didnt work. Once I did update, I got Launchcast to work on both IE and Yahoo browsers.
Hope this helps,
Andi
*EDIT* Never mind... I didnt really read the fact that you guys have already updated to version 10 for XP. I dont use XP. Sorry! =)

| I also cannot play anything off the web. I recently had my PC in a shop getting it upgraded. I did have some success getting the problem resolved, but I do not like the solution. I tried a system restore from a cuple of days back and it worked. This is the message I currently get: Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located a removable storage card, insert the storage card. My lastest attempt at listening to something was at the Major League Baseball site. A MLB.com Media Player comes up, but rather than connect and play, all I see is the 'ready' prompt. |

I had this problem. It was XP SP2 popup blocker. I disabled it under in internet explorer, tools - popup blocker -turn off - tried yahoo and BAM it worked, i turn it back on and yahoo still works.
Before that I had reinstalled windows media player 10
but try adding yahoo.com or music.yahoo.com as a trusted site, also be sure your firewall settings aren't blocking 1755 port number, allow it. |

I think this is the fix |
|
|
I've had this problem also sime people indicate a system restore as the fix but that might or might not work (I thnk it could actually do some damage)
What worked for me was
start media player >> click on tools >> options >> click the player tab>> check "Connect to the internet"
This should work for you .. Hope to hear if it does .. cheers |

This was the answer for me - turned off popup blocker in IE7 and it worked. This is clearly a bug. I don't even USE internet explorer. |
