WMP audio clips on amazon.com won't load in 10.4.3 |

i'm working on my new iMac G5(10.4.3) and i cannot load any of the WMP
audio clips on amazon.com.
a new screen opens, but the player's screen stays black. the audio
clips won't load regardless which browser i use to access amazon. i've
tried re-downloading WMP, but with no luck. i've contacted amazon.com
twice and received a canned response ('update your software') each
time.
is anyone else having this problem with amazon.com and their audio
clips?

Some of the Amazon clips have been broken recently (incorrect file
paths). Maybe this is your problem - several people have reported this
in the last few weeks and invariably it's been an Amazon site error.
Apparently most of the real player streams are still ok, so just use
those for the time being.

does anyone have any information if the powers-that-be at microsoft
plan on addressing these incompatibility issues?

I apologize for any confusion regarding these streaming audio clips.
Unfortunately, these streaming files are not compatible with Macintosh
systems. This is because the Windows Media Player for Mac does not
support the copy protection feature that these files contain.
I apologize if this was not clear. Thank you for shopping at

Oh, I didn't realise they used DRM now !
That's kind of a pointless action on their part, since small clips are
intended to be a "taster" to allow customers to decide if the music's
to their taste ! It's not anything like getting the whole track
unprotected, and is extremely stupid waste of everybody's time.
It's rather like a radio station not allowed to broadcast any tracks
to people using car radio's - because other people *might* hear a
snippet of the the precious copyright article when you drive past with
the windows down !
They just lost a sale because the people who caught a snpppet thought
it was a great song and recommended the album to their friends ...
dumb business sense.
WMP can't be updated to the newset DRM, and probably won't ever be
updated as a player on the Mac. So I'd get Real Player, and use that -
it doesn't suffer from this ridiculous DRM mess in the same way.

i got some more answers via Microsoft...the problem enlies completely
with Amazon and not Windows. and you're right. if Amazon feels the need
to alienate me simply because i refuse to be a lemming and buy a
Windows PC, i can alienate them by never purchasing from them again.
The Windows Media team referred me to an FAQ site that's got more info

following:
1.3 Why can I play some protected files, but not others?
Content providers can protect Windows Media files from unauthorized
playback by using a technology called digital rights management (DRM).
A
Windows Media file that has been assigned digital rights is called a
"protected," or "licensed," or "secured" file.
To play a protected file, you must obtain a license (a kind of
electronic key) from the content provider. In many cases, the Player
can
acquire a license for you automatically when you attempt to play the
file. In other cases, the content provider may not issue you a license
until you pay a fee or provide additional information, such as your
e-mail address.
Content providers can issue several different versions of DRM licenses;
however, Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X only supports version 1
licenses. This means that you might be able to play some protected
files, but not others.

Yeah, it would almost be funny if it wasn't so sad....
I'm still waiting for an update for WMP9 that would simply fix the
NUMEROUS bugs in this version... It doesn't look like they are in any
hurry to release a newer version of WMP. I wouldn't hold my breath...

thing to use 3rd party players if the main vendor doesn't supply a
workable version.
