I'm trying to dump my old WMP files so I can re-download. The old WMP
doesn't function (for one
thing it has an "Applications" icon instead of the WMP icon). Also the
error message "damaged or
incomplete" appears. I've tried downloading over the old several times--I
must delete all of the old.
When I throw the icon in the Trash, click Finder, click Empty Trash, I get
"The operation cannot be
completed because the item 'wmphelp.htm' is locked." (followed by several
..htm and .gif files)
How do I get into the file and unlock the various components? I'm
completely buffaloed!

Thank you Harri! I have 20 years PC experience and 3 months Mac experience.
You've taught me a great little Mac trick! Problem solved--thanks again.

Has any one figured out how to empty the trash, besides holding down a ALT
key that Macs don't have?

"Alt" is printed on the "Option" key on my Apple keyboard.

Press the alt key and select Empty the Trash from the icon in the Dock
as the key is pressed. I don't think it works from the menu.

Though it's unlikely to be of any use any time soon... Locking files is
a function coming straight from MacOS 9 and I haven't seen it in any
MacOS X app beside WMP. People use Permissions nowadays.
