When using a Mac and playing a multiple bitrate file (56K, 150K, 300K) PLayer
for some reason always plays the lowest bitrate as a default. So eventhough I
have a fast connection I get the 56K bitrate video. Why is that? Is this some
kind of a bug?

Thanks,

What he meant to say is that the media player doesn't pass to the
media server it's available bandwidth capability.

For that reason, media server assumes the client can only play the
lowest bandwidth media content in the MBR file.

You could try to override this using the WMBitrate or WMContentBitrate
query string values available for WMP, which are passed to the server
AFAIK : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315959/EN-US/

You might need to test this works with the standalone player first,
and (if it does), then you'll need to use a client-side sniff to
determine the player version and platform, and alter your ASX or media
link accordingly.

HTH

....even if you set this up in the WMP preferneces (that's the "knwon
bug" part :-\ ).

I'll keep that in reference. Thanks a million for the information Neil,
I didn't know this KB :-))
