Why is Windows Media Player v10 trying to convert my mp3's t |

With WMP v10, I have mp3's that I have put on my portable music player before,
and now it says "Conversion Required". The converter process eats up 100%
of my CPU and nothing happens. The .wma files transfer just fine, but 98% of
my music is mp3.
As directed by microsoft, if I go in tools->options->devices, then right
click on my mp3. Well, as soon as I right click - WMP crashes!!
I tried to downgrade to WMP v9, but that is not possible.
Now I am kinda stuck! I can still mount my mp3 flash memory like a hard
drive and use windows explorer to copy files, but that sucks for making
music mixes!
Anyone found something that works ??
