If I use Windows Server 2003 and WMS9, will I be able to set it up to *initiate* an outgoing connection from the WMS9 server to the Windows Media Player client?

I am asking because I have a server which is behind a firewall, using a non-routable internal IP, and I only want this to initiate the connection. Otherwise I would have to give the server an external IP and this would expose it to the rest of the net, which I don't want to do.

As far as I know, it is not possible for the server to
initiate a connection to the player.

Thx,
Ravi

OK, that's kinda what I thought, Ravi.

What I want to do is offer streaming but not expose the Windows server
to the rest of the Internet (company security policy). Suggestions?

Per,

You seem to want a push model to stream from server to
client. Push model only works from an encoder to a server
as far as I know.

May be it is possible to write a custom app. to do this
using Windows Media format SDK but not sure about the
scale of work involved (nor can I definitely say that this
is indeed possible).

I am not quite a networking expert, so can't think of a
way around your requirement of not exposing your IP but
still be able to stream off of it. May be, someone else on
this list has an idea?

Thx,
Ravi
