Transcoding HDTV MPEG-2 stream to wmv |
|
|
I have problems in doing the transcoding according to
Microsoft guide:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/howto/article
s/ProducingHDVideo.aspx
Please see/download my test file and see my comments on:
http://128.255.228.51/AVtestFiles/
I will be very interested in knowing if anybody following
that guide, have been successful in transcoding a MPEG-2
file derived from a HDTV transport stream file (*.ts) to a
*.wmv file. I have tried without luck and begin to believe
that the WM9 encoder may not handle such a transcoding
problem.

Re: Transcoding HDTV MPEG-2 stream to wmv |

Well here are my testing results :
GSpot : Failed rendering at about 25%
Windows media 9 : Could not play (stalled between 15 and 25%), though
it 'knew' the file was 19 seconds long, and 1920x1440 pixels.
Windows media 7 : Could not play (unable to render)
Real player 10 : Could not play (no compatible codecs available for
the file content)
Windows media encoder : No suitable source renderers could be found
for the content
Quicktime Pro : Not recognised as a MPEG-2 file (could not convert)
So, it suggests to me that either it's not MPEG-2 as you've asserted,
or the file is somehow corrupted or produced with a codec so wacky
that none of the standard players could play or convert it.

Neil, Thanks for your extensive testing. FYI I can convert
this same file to a playable avi (MPEG-4 type file) with
several transcoders so it may not be too corrupted. Do you
know of any program that will test for adherence to a MPEG-
2 standard to specify exactly the problem?

No, sorry, I'm not aware of any ;-)
BTW Ulead video studio crashed while trying to import this, I forgot
to add as I posted before testing, the intention was to see if it
could convert it. O well, back to the drawing board hehe.

The old good elecard codec might be able to convert that one... i'll try it
and let you know.

Confirmed, Elecard/Moonlight works like a charm.
