Live encoded archived wmv file not randomly accessible |
|
|
When I encode a live event and archive my stream to a
file (as well as have a media server pull the stream) the
archived file is not randomly accessible but can only be
played sequentially from start to finish... Is there a
setting that I am missing that is causing this or is this
an inherent limitation in a live encoded archived file?
Thank you for you assistance.

Normally you should make sure that the file is Indexed so users can
seek through the file. Even then, if it's archived on a web server
rather than a streaming server, they'll have to wait for it to
download to the seek point, as web servers don't do random access.
If you're still with me, look at the Encoder, load your encoder
profile, click the Properties button to get at your Encoding Profile's
details, then go to the Output tab.
Under the 'Archive to file' the checkbox there 'Index File' must be
checked. Is it ?

You can also use windows media file editor to add the indexing after you
have created the file.
Thanks Gaz.
