When I try to stream content from sites that play through their own "skinned"
player or page, I am unable to stream their media. All I get is "connecting
to media". Sites that stream and allow for the content to play via the media
player itself seem to work fine. I have rolled back to 9, reinstalled 10, re
installed codecs, in short I have tried everything. can someone please help?

Sorry I can't give an answer, I'm just chiming in that I am experiencing the
exact same problem. More details from my system: it broke when I upgraded to
SP2 and WMP10. I am not using Windows Firewall (just the same firewall in my
router that has always been OK before) and the URL's actually play fine when
I "open URL" in the stand-alone WMP, they just won't in the browser window
plugin.

I hear you. I think mine broke when I upgraded to WM 10. I am avoiding SP2
like the plague for reasons such as this one.

Hopefully someone will help us..

Try downloading Get Right. I had the same problem and this fixed it.
