Hi all - I have been trying to find a utility to encode Mac quicktime files
to .wmv using my mac - os 10.3.5.

I can make any element into an .mpg file, if that's all it takes. Does MS
make WMEncoder in my world? If not, will it run on one of the windows
emulators?

For now, out of desperation I've been generating .wmv files by putting my
quicktimes into AfterEffects and rendering them out using AE's .wmv encoder,
but with spotty results at best.

TIA for any light you can shed - Todus

I suspect that Premiere can do this directly for you.

I recommend trying WM Enocder with XP in VirtualPC. Export it from
QuickTime as uncompressed AVI if there is a size issue. Transcoding to an
intermediate lossy format like MPEG-2 is not a good idea unless you're not
concerned about the resulting quality. Also, Windows does not come with an
MPEG-2 decoder so you will need to purchase one.

Apart from using an emulator you can't really, until this software is released:

Keep those fingers crossed.

There are several applications for Windows that can encode from Quicktime to
WMV-format.

TMPGEnc 3.0 Xpress

Sorenson Squeeze 4.0

Cleaner XL too but I'd rather get one of the above ones.

They both do multipass encoding.
