Does anyone know if there are any issues with renaming a WIndows 2003
encoder machine? This machine only belongs to a workgroup. I do not want
to lose any of my settings. Thanks.

I can't speak for the rest of the services on the machine, you'll have
to ask in a security or general admin newgroup is the best idea.

But for the encoder, you only need the machine name *if* you are
broadcasting http direct to clients (rather than saving as files). And
then, only if you've used the machine name on a local network for
clients to connect to.

If you've done that and hard-coded the machine name in an ASX file
which the clients use to connect, then you'll have to track down those
and notify the users (email) of the new machine name eg

"Our new encoder URL is http://newmachinename:8080" or something like
that.

I understand if you connect to a publishing point (a real Streaming
Server), it might authenticate based on IP address, but I wouldn't
expect it to authenticate connections to it on machine name as this
would be a huge security hole.

Cheers - Neil
