I have a Windows Server 2003 trying to pull a video stream from my home
computer accessing the internet from a dsl and a router. The encoder keeps
giving me the IP of the router and the server keeps giving me a can't find
error even if I use the correct IP of the computer on the server side. How
can I get the server to see the encoder?

Which router are you using and have you set up port forwarding and
triggering yet?

Unfortunately your network topology ain't clear : Have you got ....

WMS2003 + Encoder Machine + Router <--> Internet <--> Viewing computer
WMEncoder + Router <--> Internet <--> WMS2003

Things to check :

1) If you have network case (1) above, then the WMS and WME machines
are inside your network on private IP addresses. Your WMServer2003
machine, you can get the IP address from a command line by typing in

ipconfig /all

And look at the output. It'll be an IP in the range 192.168.x.x,
172.16-31.x.x or 10.x.x.x (x between 1 and 254)

You'd then use 'push to server' rather than 'pull from server' to
connect the WMS to your WME machine which would save a lot of hassle.

Your router should then pass through MMS requests I think port 1755,
to the WMS machine.

Make sure that -if you've XPSP2 on the Encoder machine- then you check
out the XP firewall, it's now on by default and you might need to
check some settings.

2) The encoder will usually give you the *private* IP address of your
machine, not the router. If you have network case (2) above, you need
to use the IP address of the Internet-Facing side of the router. Then,
you need to tell the router that it should pass incoming request
packets to your encoder's port (eg :8080) to the Encoders private IP
address.

Check out the above comments about XPSP2 firewall. Same applies to
Zone Alarm (need to give Encoder and WMS2003 the ability to act as
servers !)
