Server not responding |
|
|
My encoder is broadcasting fine; however when someone
else form overseas try to connect to it, the server will
get an error of " Server not responsing".
I am directly connected to the internet (not using a
router) and only one machine is connected to the internet
at home.
I notice one thing though, the URL or address for LAN
connection and other outside internet connection is the
same- http://my computer:port/
Thanks you.

You probably haven't got a DNS record for your PC. So even though you
can see it as mycomputer, people on the internet can't. You should
start an MS-DOS promot, and type if ipconfig /all
This will tell you your external IP address, and you should hand out
that and the port to viewers, rather than your computer name.

I actually did set up my IP when I broadcast the program
from my TV card and my friends did use the address as
Http://IP address: port/
what else am I doing wrong?
I have heard that i have to make my IP "active" and get
information from my internet provider, is this true? If
true, what exactly do i need or need to do?

I don't know what you mean by 'get it active'. The IP address you
have is either connected to the internet or it's not. If your ISP
gives you a 'private' IP address range, then it can't be routed over
the internet. Private IP addresses are in these ranges :
10.x.x.x
172.16-31.x.x
192.168.x.x
and some begin with 169.x.x.x (unconfigured DHCP)
So, if your IP address is in these ranges, your assertion that 'I am
directly connected to the internet' is mistaken.
You'll probably need to contact your ISP for help in this case.

I think my IP is fine- it can broadcast to people over
the internet.
Before broadcasting a video, is there anything i have to
do in DOS?
The main problem I realize is that the LAN connection and
the internet connection address is identicial even when
it shows my IP address as I select a free port in
starting a new session, please tell me how to correct
that.

Your problem description is confusing : In your first post you said
"I am directly connected to the internet (not using a
router) and only one machine is connected to the internet
at home."
So why are you now discussing a 'LAN connection' and an 'internet
connection' -- do you have a dual-homed (two network-card) machine
which is connected to both the LAN and directly to the Internet on a
public IP address ?
Please, you really need to give us specific details of your system as
it is set up, rather than telling us what you think is wrong - it'll
be much quicker to get you a solution than all of us guessing ;-))
