I'd like to archive my DVD collection and have the ability to stream that
archive to my television (61" Hitachi UltraVision not HD). Initially I
planned to build a Windows XP Media Center type box with DVI etc. and use
Windows Media Player / Windows 2003 and Windows Media Server. Recently I saw
Pinnacle Systems has a device called ShowCenter. From what I understand
ShowCenter basically uses software to stream the video from your pc.
ShowCenter supports the following formats - MPEG-1- MPEG-2- DivX AVI- Xvid
AVI. I like this concept considering you can rip a DVD rename the VOB to MPG
and stream it to ShowCenter eliminating the confusing encoding process all
together. Of course the disadvantage to this solution is the amount of disk
space required when your talking 6 gig per DVD. Also, I have never seen a PC
hooked to a HD television but I'm assuming it would perform as one huge
monitor with excellent resolution? If someone can confirm that assumption
then the Windows XP Media Center type box would provide additional benefits
and it's a no brainer! Does anyone have any thoughts or advice?
Thanks in advance,
WW
