Trying to convert files to wmv files |
|
|
I am trying to convert files to wmv files with media
encoder 9, but when I load it up, as soon as I try to
select/browse for a file to convert, the program crashes
giving me the "Windows media encoder has encountered a
problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the
inconvenience." Its very frusterating, it gives no
reason why, the error report gives me no useful
information on what the problem is. And I have tried
reinstalling the program several times. I dont know what
is wrong with it. I use windows XP, if that makes a
diff. Any suggestions anyone may have will be much
appreciated.

Have you installed a Codec Pack like Kazaalite etc?

I would suggest using a different program than WME.
Try using the freeware program dbpoweramp:
www.dbpoweramp.com
Great program, completely free of charge. Will convert any audio format to
any other audio format. It will also rip CDs into whatever format you want.
(WME doesn't rip, if I recall correctly.) Make sure that besides downloading
and installing the main program, you download and install (also free)
whatever codec packs they have for whatever formats you might want to use.
(They have a WMA codec pack, for example, that you have to install in order
to convert to and from WMA.)
In encoding to WMA with DBPoweramp you have all the possible WMA options
(which many programs do not have)--CBR, VBR, one pass, two pass, Pro,
Voice, and Lossless, (all with many options), etc.

Hi Trevor,
As Manila Dell suggests, you may wish to uninstall the third party codec or
codec pack that was installed on your system and then reinstall Windows
Media Encoder before attempting to run the encoder.

Hi MS,
If a third party codec or codec pack is preventing Trevor from using
Windows Media Encoder successfully, chances are that he wont have sucess
with an alternative product until he fixes the root cause.
Best Regards,
