Lost Music? |
|
|
Hi, I am using Win XP prof and WMP 10.0,
Has anyone had issues with WMP deleting music from your hard drive? I
only use WMP to listen to my MP3s. I have loaded all my CD albums (great
quantities of music, roughly 60 gig of mp3s). I was just going through my
library and have noticed that many of my albums are missing. I know it was
there no more than 2 days ago and I have not deleted anything from my PC
since I last heard the song I was just looking for.
I have noticed this happen in the past but to the occaisional song here
and there so never paid it much mind, but now I have 3 full albums that have
gone missing in the last 2 days.
Has anyone ever seen this or figured what might be causing it?

Yes, it has happened to me with v9 (beta and release) and v10 on several
computers. others have reported the same phenomena. I believe it is the
"rename and rearrange" feature in the Library options - although it
seems to run sometimes even with the option off. However the WMP options
dialog is so confused that it's hard to predict the state of some of the
features.
The loss of album tracks is often seen in conjunction with new folders
labelled "Unknown album <date-time stamp>" which may be empty or contain
tracks with bare labelling of files. To date, no interest from Microsoft
about tracking it down...and yes it has been reported to both their
development teams and product support services.
It IS very important to have backups of your files (media and album-art)
before allowing WMP to touch them: my blog details a lot of reasons why
you have to be VERY careful.http://msmvps.com/thinice/ |
