I am having problems with opening of the media files from any web sites.
When I do so, the Windows Media player opens up with an error message: “The
specified server could not be found”. It also indicates that it cannot find
a proxy server, but neither the internet provider nor I have a proxy server.
If, however, I save an mp3 file in my pc, the WMP plays them without any
problems.

My pc runs on the Windows98 platform (4.10.1998), the internet provider is
Comcast cable. My media player version is 7.01.00.3055

This problem is pretty recent, as I was able to open and listen to the mp3
files directly from the websites before.

This is happening to a lot of people using 98 and ME. I've checked
around. I wonder if there is something happening which has nothing to
do with our PC's settings, and why these particular issues are left
unanswered.

Microsoft? Hello? Do you... "know"... about this? What can you do for
us to restore streaming media capability to our WMP9's?

Consider that upgrading to XP is NOT an option.

Microsoft Windowsmedia team is *not* paying attention to the newsgroups.
You'll have to contact product support by phone.

I know that. Sorry you didn't catch the tone.
