Cache somehow "mimics" streaming.

fact that the problem only occurs with Mac IE? To troubleshoot a server
problem, what is it that I need to ask my Web host?

Well it's a problem on both sides:
The server doesn't send the MIME type therefore it's up to IE to find
out what file type it is an IE is not up to the task and fails to
identify it properly.
I would have thought that IE shoudl be able to simply use the extension
of the file to guess it, but obviously not :-\
As far as configuring the host... I have no idea what is required to
have the server properly specifying the MIME.
Nevertheless, I don't know many people around me who still uses IE as
their regular browser (at least in MacOS X - but we don't have MacOS 9
computers here anymore anyway). Is this so critical then if all other
browsers are OK ?? Did you test this in IE on Windows to see whether you
had the same problem ??

So, then, are you saying that there's no way to fix this problem? You would
think that Microsoft would want to support their own MIME type for their own
browser!!
IE for Mac is the ONLY browser/platform that the file doesn't work in. All
other browsers on both platforms (PC & Mac) successfully cache and open WMP
to play the videos. I also have them posted in QuickTime format, which also
works just fine in all browsers, including IE for Mac.
Do all you folks use Safari? I used to work exclusively on Macs (I have two
of them at home), but now I mostly work in Windows (at home and at work), so
I've kind of lost touch with the Mac world....
If there's no fix, I guess I'll just have to live with the IE Mac problem.

Well IE on MacOS is *officially* dead..... It has been abandonned a
couple of years ago now :-(
They won't fix it or do any improvement on it...

I'm not surprised.

Safair is number 1. Some people use Mozilla or FIreFox. I use 99% of the
time OmniWeb. No one here uses IE. We keep it on the Mac for the few
sites that require it and for acecssing the NetInfo Database easely
without going through yet another thrird party app fro that purpose
alone.

I hope someone else will chime in and offer you a better solution but I
can't see any right now :-\
