WMP not working |
|
|
Hi-
I have Mac OSx. 2. something...and I had been using WMP without a
problem for a long time. This weekend I tried to download a file and
I ran into a problem. As I clicked on the file, a note came up asking
for my username and password. Then the whole file stopped working. I
tried to uninstall but it would work. I tried to remove the file from
my dock, but it claimed that the file was active, and when I would try
to force quit I was told the program wasn't even open.
Logically I restarted the computer, deleted the whole program, and
then reinstalled it, yet I keep having the same problem. Is there
anything I can do? Or am I forced to never use WMP again?

What did the warning say beside that ??
Was it a warning in a WMP window or a regular MacOS X authentication
window (eg: your system user name is already there).

You're having the problem with the same file or with all files ??
Did you try repairing permissions on the Drive ??

Since trying to simply delete WMP 9 from my applications folder (which didn't
work), I've tried re-installing several times but without any success. The
WMP 9 icon is gone, and in its place is the generic OS X application icon
"A". Double-clicking to launch the application but before anything actually
appears on the screen, I get a message that "WindowsMediaPlayer has
unexpectedly quit...". That's as far as I can get these days. It seems I
must have damaged something when trying to delete the application. Any
suggestions?

Press the alt key as you empty the trash.

Try deleting the pref na d.plist and rebuild persmissions on the drive.
You should find more detailed instructions in the FAQ:
