Authentication - no workie with WMP9 for OS X? |

Hi. I'm working with streaming media at a Swedish university and it seems
that my life today suddenly got a bit harder. Why? Because I installed WMP9
on a Mac and couldn't access our published media.
I clicked my mms://-link, WMP9 was opened but instead of asking for a login
it just told me "Access Denied". Tried another file, that doesn't require
authorization and well, it worked.
I then tried to open the first link using VLC and it gave me the following
response:
access_mms: error 401 (server return=`Unauthorized')
main: no suitable access module for `/://my link here removed'
access_mms: id/password requested (not yet supported)
access_mms: id/password requested (not yet supported)
access_mms: cannot connect to server
We protect our content by using the default authorization and
authentication-plug ins in the Windows 2003 server. We then publish the login
& password together with the links in our intranet and voilá, students can
only access what they are supposed to see. On Windows the WMP opens a dialog
and asks for login and password and well, everything has worked fine so far,
but it seems that WMP9 for OS X doesn't work with ANY form of server side
authentication?
Can anyone confirm this? <sarcasm>I'm REALLY looking forward to inform
teachers and students about this since it means that we'll either have to
skip Mac as a supported platform or open up all our publishing points.
They'll be thrilled :-D</sarcasm>
Boho :-(
