Therer's a 64 bit encoder if you need a speedup or the VC-1 codec :
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/9series/encoder/versions.aspx
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=CC41218D-7E37-4546-BF0B-1276959EE3EF&displaylang=en

What is it you need to do that the WME9 with the WMP10 (WMAV9.1) codec
updates doesn't do ?

You really should update everything from the windows update website,
there have been significant changes and security patches even since
XPSP2.

There are some low latency CBR options for the audio codecs which get
installed if you put the WMP10 on (select them from the Audio Format
dropdown for CBR audio), as well as a few extras.

Comparing machines having WMP9 on win2000, with WMP10 on WinXP I think
the additions may include WMV9 advanced profile and WMV9 Image v2
(might come from XPs Photostory 3) - though it's hard to tell because
my systems are so extensively modified and updated !

Probably you want to read about all this here :

10.00.3646 AFAIK : I don't remember any minor version updates this
year (apart from a few DRM security patches).

Thanks.
