After I installed VCM, I could play up avi files in media player but without
any sounds....Can anyone help?

What software did you use to play AVI files ??? WMP sure is not designed
to play them on MacOS.
For AVI files I'd suggest:
- QT player with the 3ivx and DivX codecs
- VLC
- MPlayer.
