I am attempting to use Windows Media Player to play WMV files within Safari.

As a matter of policy, the webserver hands out files only to browser
requests attached to a valid IIS-ASP session.

Surprisingly, WMP fetches WMV files by itself. I say "surprisingly" because
sniffer logs verify that the browser successfully downloads entire WMV
files-- while sending a valid ASP session cookie to the server-- prior to
throwing away the downloaded file and initiating a new request.

WMP identifies itself to the IIS server as NSPlayer/8.9 WMPMac/8.9.0.3307.
Unfortunately, since WMP does not identify itself to the server as operating
within a valid ASP session, WMP cannot download the WMV file.

Is this the result of a bug, or is there some way to convince the WMP plugin
to operate within the context of the browser which contains it?

Thanks to anyone who shed some light on this problem.

Dean

It looks to me like one of the numerous bugs WMP9 for Mac has.
Would you mind sending the details there ?? :

ASP handling is really problematic in this version :-<

Done, Corentin.

This is actually a problem that would pop up with any server software that

requires cookies-- its just that my software happens to use IIS-ASP.

Most of the time when I want to access streaming content through a
"problematic" .asp file, I end up editing the file and using the mms://
links directly. Not *really*- user firnedly :-<
