I've encountered the same problem with being able to use WMP 9 and
have followed all the suggestions. Problem is I can't seem to find
the prefs or plist files even when i do a search on my HD. any
suggestions?

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist

(where ~ stands for /Users/<Your User folder>)
