Mass-ripping CDs using multiple drives |
|
|
Hello,
I have just begun re-ripping my entire CD collection using Windows Media
Player 10. I previously used another music manager and a different format
before I really knew what I was doing, and am now doing it the right way. So
far, WMP 10 offers outstanding functionality, but I am grappling with one
supremely problematic aspect of the user interface - using multiple CD-ROMs.
In a nutshell, I am loading three music CDs into three CD-ROMs, then working
on other tasks while they rip. The problem I am having is navigating quickly
and easily between the three drives. The fastest path I can find requires
four mouse clicks in order to select a new drive (File > CDs and Devices >
Rip Audio CD > [CD_name]). This is cumbersome, incessantly annoying, and is
severly slowing down how quickly I can rip by making the slowest piece of the
process (my interaction with the computer) even slower.
My question is: Is there a faster way to switch between multiple CD drives?
Independenly of this, I would really like two additional functions
available. I haven't found any feedback page on the Microsoft web site, so I
figure I'd list them here, either in case someone at Microsoft is reading
this, or in case someone in the community has a solution that I've missed.
First, it would help greatly to have the ability to queue up the tracks for
all three CDs into something like a 'Now Ripping' list and just let them run
in serial. This would cut down by two thirds the amount of interaction that I
need to have with the computer. (BTW, Creative Media Source let me do this.)
Second, it would also help to have all of my CD drives visible in one place
on the main interface. Appending them to the existing tree on the Library tab
would work, as would adding a tree to the Rip tab. (Creative Media Source let
me do this, too.)
Overall, I like WMP 10, but if I had another choice for initially ripping my
whole collection to lossless WMA format I definitely wouldn't be clicking my
way through its sprawling GUI to get the job done. Thanks, in advance, for
any input you can offer. Happy holidays.
