I link up to various 'webcasts' - is there a way - easily to 'record' these
using windows media player so I can burn to dvd at another time

If they offer them as a "podcast" then the intention is for them to be
recorded in that way, yes. Some people are doing vodcasts now (video
podcast or video on demand podcast depending who you speak to).

Look for a "podcast" or orange <RSS> link on their site, or hassle
them to put one on.
