No sound |
|
|
Mysterously, WMP10 stopped playing sound . Doesn't matter whether it is
video or mp3. I can see the vidio, just no sound. Here is the weird part:
real Player works fine. So does WMP10 if I log in as a different user (OS is
XP Media Center edition).
I've rebooted, checked the volume (duh) and reinstalled WMP10 to no avail.
Any other ideas?

Check in device options in WMP, sometimes the speaker settings are messed up
and needs to be fixed...

Sounds good (and thanks for the reply). But I don't know what I would |
change. It is set for a Realtech speaker which (I think) is what I have.
How would I know what it is supposed to be? |

Is there a mute button that mutes WMP10 but not real player? Where is it? |

Tiny round button to the left of the volume slider - easy to press and
miss. When hovering mouse, if it's pressed (Muted) the tooltip will
say "Sound" - and if it's not muted it will say "Mute" on the tooltip.
The icon is hard to differentiate when (a) it's pressed and (b) from
the graphic change on the button (a tiny 1/2 circle) *if* it's muted.
I guess they didn't want to "ruin" the glassy-styled UI by giving the
user feedback on the button state - say by using a big red cross
through it ! IMHO it's a UI mistake the way this has been done.

It's right next to the WMP volume slider. |

Ding! Ding! Ding!
I feel stupid except that I can't see a reason why I should have known this.
Thankyou! |

No, I'm afraid it's not obvious from the button style - no reason to
feel stoopid, it's tripped a lot of people up, got me in WMP10 beta
testing (but wasn't resolved as it isn't a "bug" but a "feature")
