Try dragging it onto the StuffIt Expander icon
(/Applications/Utilities/StuffIt Expander).
You might try downloading the latest version, since I don't know whether the
earlier versions have support for .sitx.
<http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/download.html>
If that still fails, try downloading a new copy from the site and then
opening it with StuffIt Expander.

Thanks for suggestions -
doesn't work because the
latest version of Stuffit has the
same suffix (.sitx). The icon
is also empty and therefore
can't be opened.

I downloaded stuffit exp. 8.0.2 already - why is
it, that these icons are empty and cannot be
opened under any circumstance - I'm using Mac
OS 10.2.8 ....

What do you mean "empty" ?? You mean generic ?? Can't you drag the file to
the Stuffit Expander application directly ???
