I downloaded and extracted the WMP9 installer fine but when
I open it up and the Installer VISE app opens up it
invaribly freezes. I've given it a few minutes and
generally I have to force quit out of it, it does nothing.
Any solutions? Here's some relevant info: 800 mHz desklamp
iMac, with OS X 10.2.8. I've seen 10.2.8 have a lot of
problems hanging in the GUI a lot with other things, and
generally I have to force quit out of them but then again
they sometimes randomly work, but this doesn't seem to. Any
help would be appreciated, thanks.

Sorry about that last post. Anyway, yes, I'm having the exact same problem,
and have had zero luck trying to figure out what's wrong. I have a feeling it
has something to do with an inability to access the startup disk.

Did you try repairing permissions on your drive ???

No, Corentin, I can't say I have; I would if I knew how ;)
I'm not entirely computer illiterate but as for most
advanced software/hardware techniques on Mac stuff I'm
mostly lost. I'm mostly setting WMP9 on this for my sister,
as she wants to watch music videos(and who knows what else)
on this machine. Either way I'm stuck, so any further
advice would be greatly appreciated, again. Thanks in advance,

Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities. Open up Disk Utility. Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab. Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

:-)) Run the DiskUtility application (/Applications/Utilities) and select your
drive there. In the First Aid pane you should find a button that allows you
to repair permissions. Since you've never done it, I would suggest restarting
afterwards (and maybe even running it a second time :-\ ). That's something
you should do on a regular basis since many applications have a nasty
tendency to mess up the permissions. If the permissions are incorrectly set,
it can prevent other applciations from running properly.

Not a problem. Everybody has to start some day anyway. I don;t know anyone
who was born knowing it all ;-)) Don't hesitate posting questions in the
newsgroups and I'm sure you'll more or less always manage to get an answer to
your questions ;-))
While we're at it, you might not be aware of a rather nice tool for
newsgroups:
http://www.google.com/advanced_group_search?hl=en
The search engine can search any group for any question that has already been
posted. It's pretty nice...

I hope we'll get it to work. The application is crippled by a bunch of rather
nasty bugs, but you should at least manage to get it installed.

.

Thanks. I'm repairing permissions as we speak and then I
plan on restarting and running through it again as you
suggested. I appreciate it a lot; and no, I wasn't aware of
that particular search function :P Thank you. It must be
pretty obvious, but yes, I am a fairly large newsgroup
newbie. Still, thank you. Hopefully this will sort things out.

Even if it doesn't fix this particular problem (but I sure wish it will),
it's a good command to know. It should fix a bunch of other issues anyway and
it can't hurt.

No problem. Considering how many questions in this particular group are
posted again and again despite the fact they are already all over the group,
I would guess that a lot of people are not aware of it either ;-) (and your
question doesn't fall in the category).

I can see you're posting from the web interface. If you consider using
newsgroups (the MS ones or any other newsgroup actually), you should then
consider using a real newsgroup client. There are a bunch of very good ones
out there and many of them free. Amongst the free ones, my favorite is
probably MT-Newswatcher:
http://www.smfr.org/mtnw/

The MS server (news.microsoft.com) will give you access to all MS newsgroups
and I'm sure your ISP has it's own newsgroup server for all the other groups.
It's far more convenient than using a web interface IMVHO :-))

Yeah, I am using the webserver, and maybe sometime soon I
will download a utility, but I'm alright with this for now.
Well, I repaired the permissions, restarted, repaired
again, and then restarted again and it still hangs in the
VISE installer. It gets past all of the legal mumbo jumbo,
I accept all of the terms, it gets to the actual
installation("510 items remaining") and hangs there. Any
other tips?

option 2: go to the pref folder and delete the WMP pref and .plist and try
again

option3: what is the name of your drive ??? Anything special in there ??

BTW, what version of the system are you running ??

:-) No, I meant the actual name you gave the drive in the Finder (like "Mac HD"
for instance) :-))

I'm getting stuck there... Are you sure you deleted
"com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist" and "Windows Media Player Prefs" from the
