WMP does not work |
|
|
Hi,
Ever since Mac OS X 10.3.x, my WMP 9.0 doesn't work. I have reinstalled
several time, but to no avail. Not even the demo will play. 'Stream not
found.' For other streamed content, WMP just sits there, no error message or
anything.
Every time I check the prefs, it defaults to 56kbps Modem. It won't save the
ISDN setting. I ried to trash the prefs file, but can't find it. It is
neither in the ~/Library nor the ~/user/Library.
Advice?
Thanks

WMP fails to read the prefs anyway...
You should try a few things that fix the problem for most people:
- trash the pref and .plist for WMP to let the app re-create them from
scratch next time it launches.
- repair Permissions on your Mac using Disk Utility (you should do that
once a month or before and after each major software install anyway).
- make sure there is no non-standard character in the name of your drive
(eg: accented letters, etc.).

I've been trying to do that, but cannot find the prefs files. Where are they
located?

That's new to me, but sounds like good advice.

That's funny, my HD is called Klaus' Toy, with the curly apostrophe.
However, WMP HAS played with my HD called that way.
We'll see
Thanks,
Klaus

:-)
The FAQ says:
- delete the WMP preference files:
~/Library/Preferences/Windows Media Player Prefs
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist

It's recommended by Apple...

Yeah, try it without the apostrophe just in case...

I dropped the apostrophe and guess what! Partial success. WMP now plays the
demo .wmv file, but when I go to the movie site, the error message 'playlist
format is not recognized' comes up...
Cheers,

That's a different one.... It's often caused by malformed .asx files.
The solution is to download the .asx, edit it in a text editor
(TextEdit, TextWrangler...) et use the mms:// link found in there
directly in WMP.

disk utility Permisions and .plist |

To Corentin Cras Mener
How do you find and use the Disk Utility to repair Permissions?
Where do you find the .plist for WMP to trash them?
Thank you |
