audio wants to go through bluetooth headset |
|
|
I paired a bluetooth head set on my PB 17" Tiger 10.4.3 laptop.
Quicktime and all other video players (VLC/Mplayer, etc) use the sound
device defined in system preferences. However, I can not get Windows
Media Player from trying to use the bluetooth headset. I've unpaired
the bluetooth device, removed it from the system configuration, and
still every .WMV (including google video) tries to use the bluetooth
device. How do I change the device that WMP is trying to use? It's not
under application preferences. Is there a plist I can edit? Failing
that, how do I *completely* remove WMP and re-install it from scratch?
Thanks ---

more info:
removed /Applications/Windows Media Player,
~/Library/Preferences/Windows Media*,
~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.windowsmedia*
alt-emptied the trash can
re-installed
and now - it says that the videos are not in a supported format. Even
says this of the sample video in /Applications/Windows Media Player/
I obviously missed something in the delete. Where else is MS hiding
preferences?
Thanks..... |

OK. This is a weird one.... Turns out that the problem is Audacity
(open source music player). It mucks with something (probably MIDI or
some such). Found a link that suggested running GarageBand. It resets
everything back to normal.
wow.

Nice work troubleshooting that one. This one might have "stumped the
stars" up here. :-)

Yeah, it looks like for some reason launching GarageBand can correct
someimproper audio output settings on the system. Other apps are also
affected by that. It's the first time I hear about Audacity being the
root of the problem though,
