WMS Setup FAQ |
|
|
I am a newbie to WMS and am struggling to find a WMS101. Does anyone know of
a good document which is not overly technical. So far I have loaded WMS,
created a publishing point, fed it with content (audio), told it to be "on
demand" and used the wizard to create a playlist.
There are two things I now need to do:
1. Make the play list accessible via the intranet (should i make a
dedicated website for this?)
2. Gain access from my PDA (IPAQ4150 with media player 9) So far it will
not let me talk stream audio but I can access the remainder of the network
fine.
I am using wms to stream my cd collection within my home / office via an
intranet. I run SBS2003 and do not want to go outside ISA Server 2004.
Any pointers greatfully received

No, you can just save the HTML file and/or ASX file to a network share
somewhere and browse to it as required (you could add the network
location to the browser's favourites if needed).
All the HTML file is, is a text file - so there's no need to invoke a
web server unless you intend to muck about with a database and
scripting languages.

That's odd - most of the audio and voice codecs used for WMP will play
on WMP9 on a PDA. Some video codecs (eg WMV9 Screen capture ) won't
however, and there's no way to upgrade or workaround other than
re-encoding to WMV9 standard.
Can you give an example of the codecs used to encode the video ?

Neil
Thanks for your comments. The trouble when you start a project like this is
that you "don't know what you don't know". I think that I am understanding
server-side playlists a little better and now think they are not what I want.
I did manage to get the .htm file running with the media player encoded -
thanks. I am even questioning whether I actually need to be using WMS for my
application??
So far I have copied my cd collection and want to make it available for home
users on demand - no pre-determined playlists. My main problem is with my
PDA. I can browse the network fine. I can see all of the music files. I
can manually copy the music files wirelessly and paste them onto my PDA and
they play fine. I cannot play them wirelessly from their original location.
I AM able to play the same music files from their original location
wirelessly by my laptop. I am using the same login credentials for both
devices. Any ideas?
Regards
Mike
