VHS feed to WME query |
|
|
I have now almost fully configured my DVD/VHS/SAT TV & DV webcam feed to
work with WME9 (live broadcast) toWindows Media Player clients (File, Open
URL) via a dynamic dns -
http://adrian.dyndns.info:1219
One further query - why is it that I can broadcast some VHS videos but not
others? Most VHS seem to work - but one in particular (newer) won't display
video - even though audio comes through... Some kind of copy protection?

Any software (vs hardware) tricks on this? Yes, VCR/DVD/SAT/TV feeds are via
an analogue TV capture device - an oldish Hauppaguge WinTVUSB (USB 1.1)

Could be "macrovision" yes - if they're pre-recorded not home-recorded
video (assuming you can view them as-is on the TV anyway)
Macrovision scrambles the incoming video signal in some way that TVs
can interpret uninterrupted, but other devices like VCRs and I guess
your TV card input, are confused by the timing (synchronisation)
pulses. If you want to read more about this, suggest :

Actually there seems to be a bunch of newer VHS tapes that won't give
video...
I'll leave the older VHS stuff on until anyone taps in - then I'll flip

Macrovision does not scramble the signal. Basically it
inserts a high level signal into a non-viewed portion of the
video stream, and this would exploit the automatic gain
control on the recording device. The AGC circuit would think
the video was too bright and attenuate the signal to reduce
that artificially high level with a result of the actual
video signal being too weak to be visible.
Their are macrovision 'decoders' available that basically
clip the overpowered signals, or just passing the signal
through an old vcr may do the trick also- I found that out
using a high end sony vintage ~90.
