Hi,

Does any G.711 stream need to run through the encoder in order to be
played in the MS Media player?
Presumably to create a wave file?

Or can I send it straight to the MS Media player?

Cheers,
Craig

In general you *should* be able to send it to the player.

The MS G711 codec seems to be installed by deafult on most windows
systems. If in doubt, check by starting the GSpot program, and looking
for the format tag 0x0007 for quartz.dll --> msg711.acm (the
registered DS handler for G711) : http://www.headbands.com/gspot/

The best way of course is to *try it* first and post if you have any
problems rendering it.
