no premium viewing - Update for WMDRM-enabled Media Players |
|
|
I have a question about the latest " Update for WMDRM-enabled Media Players
(KB891122) " I downloaded Thurs. November 10th. . Is this the right place or
should I post a question somewhere on a XP or Media Center Edition 2005 board?
Regarding playback of digital cable tv in MCE 2005: This update still does
not let me even view any cable premium channels LIVE on my pc. Plays for 5 to
10 seconds then goes to a DRM content protected screen. Not even interested
in recording or later playback but just watching LIVE on my PC and streaming
to my Xbox360. I understand about DRM and content protected like HBO but
want to know if this latest update DRM restricts even LIVE viewing using a
digital cable box (not basic analog) ? Is this a bug/fix MS is working on as
they released a similar update last week?
Would like to get this resolved soon as the Xbox360 will be out in 10
days and will enjoy being able to LIVE stream all my cable channels -
including the premium.
-running MCE 2005 with all the current updates, General Instrument Carter
Digital cable box directly into the pc then streaming out wireless to
Xbox360. ATI 800XP Pro with a duel ATI All IN Wonder HDTV card, AMD64.

Hello Sushi2Go
I guess that the cause of your problem is not by installing update of
KB891122.
KB891122 is the simple upgrade of WindowsMediaPlayer related to DRM security.
I am using MCE2005 too , but all goes well after installing all updates.
As an additional information;
Are you use XBOX360 as a MCX(MediaCenterExtender) with WindowsMediaConnect?
I have never test it (because I could not get XBOX360 or XBOX with MCX
in JAPAN) ,but contents provider can set DRM license to restrict use MCX.
This URL will be your help.

Thanks

Thanks for your post & link. Yes; I will be using (on Tuesday Nov 22nd!) the
Xbox360 as a MCX (media Center Extender) to stream HDTV content recorded off
"over the air" local broadcast as well as viewing & recording television from
my Media Center Edition 2005 PC hooked up with a HD digital cable box.
Content providers can set DRM license to restrict use MCX? I can't even get
the premium channels to play LIVE on the PC itself, much less through MCX-
Xbox1 or 360. If the content provider being the actual channel itself- i.e.
HBO, drm is not an issue, because my dad can watch & record the channel via
satelite & MCE. Maybe it could be my specific digital cable box - General
Instrument.
I'm surprised Microsoft didn't release a MCX (Media Center Extender) for
Xbox1 in Japan. Well; at least you guys got the Xbox VIDEO Chat:
http://www.xbox.com/ja-JP/hardware/v/videochat/default.htm
Will be out for the Xbox360 next year.

UPDATE: Still no viewing of "premium channels" (i.e. HBO, Showtime,
Cinemax) in Windows Media Center 2005 with my digital cable box with only 1
day left to Xbox360 launch! Was looking forward to the streaming of all
channels to the 360- not just basic cable. Found out my dad is running MCE
(with the latest Windows Media DRM updates installed from last week) using
digital satellite box and has no problem at all with any playback and/or
recording of premium content channels. So the only difference between us is
my digital cable box vs. his satellite box (and I think Satellite is always
broadcast in digital) Now I'm doubting it being a Comcast Digital Cable or
the specific channels involved issue, but rather a Microsoft MCE DRM software
issue. Or maybe just some corrupted MCE files or registery issues.
Is there a direct link here to reinstall the last MCE critical update?
Anyone here still having the same problem? Looks like I will not be
streaming any premium cable tv movies to my Xbox360 come Tuesday!!!
