The .asx file is good for linking adverts, multiple pieces of content, adding
stream information etc as metadata yes but it's other function to an extent
is to misdirect people as to where the content is coming from. Obviously an
end user can take source code from your webpage, wget your .asx file and
discover were a stream is coming from. BUT the .asx file means that for an
avarage user who does not know how all this works will think that the file is
stored or streamed from the webserver FQDN not on the streaming server which
stays hidden to the end user by the .asx file.

I see that direct linking on a website to the server works without the .asx
IE MMS://SERVER1.COM/FILENAME.WMV
What are the disdvantages of not using an .asx besides metadat such as
author, etc?
