According to here, AVS isn't a windows media file type :

Did you mean AVI ? In that case, you should take a look at GSpot,
which can help identify the "codec" needed to decode the AVI file -
AVIs can use any one of a wide range of codecs.

Possibly it would be the Divx4 codec, which you can get from
www.divx.com, but it's worth checking before installing anything.
