Favourites disappeared in WMP 9 |
|
|
I added a new station to the favourites and when I quit WMP 9 and later
opened it, all my favourites list has disappeared apart from the new
station I added.
What appears when I click on the favourites menu is the new station is
there with a ">" arrow indicating a sub menu but it doesn't go any
further.
When I looked around the WMP files on my Mac, the only text log of my
favourites I could find had only the new station and not my whole list/
What has happened and how can I restore my favourites?
Thanks in advance.

That would be indicative of a corrupted pref file... You might consider
trashing it to make sure you'll start again from a freshly created pref
file.

How do I trash the pref file on Mac OS X and create a new one? (or is
it created automatically?)
Is there any chance to recover my list of favourites? It's frustrating
to have to recall all my favourites and finding the URL's for them now
are difficult with many launching from Macromedia applications -
meaning I can read the source code to find the URL.
I'm really upset I've lost them as I have a Mac so files don't become
corrupted etc.
What can I do to recover my favourites?
Thanks in advance.

trashing the file is easy: drag it to the trash :-) The new one will be
created automatically the next time you launch the app.
You can find more details here:

The favorites are stored in a different file:
"Windows Media Favorites""

File corruption is rather platform-independent... In this specific case,
I suspect that it's the WMP app iotself that tends to corrupt these
files.
One option for your: create all fresh clean files, customize then and
back them up. This way, if ever the files become corrupted again, you
can restore your backup and recover all your settings and favorites.
