Hi Folks,

Does the "IMG DYNSRC" tag still work in IE with the Media Player
10? I have been told by some that in XP with Player 10, the tag
doesn't work on their machines.

Thanks for the help!

Take care, Joe.

Hi again, Folks,

A follow-up to my question above: Does the video file have to be in
the AVI format with "IMG DYNSRC", or can it be an MPG or other type?
Thanks!

Take care, Joe.

Usually, it shouldn't be AVI at all. DYNSRC allows using a generic data
stream for streamed animations, like GIF or MNG. AVI however has its image
index at the end and is therefore not usable with DYNSRC. MPEG would be
fine, but can you point me to any browser supporting this?
Damn, simply embed it as generic Object.

Of course, you can use it for such. But it has no special use for those
over a simple Object tag, except generating incompatibility.

It is. But damn, a DYNSRC can't use plugins that don't specially support
it. So use an Object tag, this is what it's supposed to do.

Security settings, yes. IE treats every Object and Img-Dynsrc as ActiveX,
whether it is or not. Anyway, IE has no relation to security.

Hi Sebastian and Folks,

Thanks for the reply!

From what I found on Microsoft's site, the "IMG DYNSRC" tag is used for
AVI files, media. I have also seen recently on another site(
http://www.jalfrezi.com/frames/fi.htm ) where they say the file format must
be in the AVI format. So here is my problem. I have been using the "IMG
DYNSRC" tag for several years to have my little clips of my hobby projects to
play in my page where I explain them. My clips are MPEG1 (using AVI2MPG2 by
Brent Beyeler to compress my AVI files from my digital camera.), most of them
without audio. They play perfectly on my machine. I like to use them in the
web page, not in a stand alone player, because I need them to loop and they
loop very smoothly in that "IMG DYNSRC" tag, and I can explain things while
the clip is looping on the page. (I use a simple embed for other browsers:

(embed type="application/x-mplayer2" src="http://mysiteaddress/file.mpg"
pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=windows&sbp=mediaplayer&ar=Media&sba=Plugin&"

autostart=1 playcount=1000 HEIGHT=144 WIDTH=176 ShowControls=0>)

On my Windows 98SE machine, the "IMG DYNSRC" tag works perfectly with media
player 9 installed, IE 6. I learned that some people cannot get the short
clips on XP machines with player 10. So, I just need to know if the "IMG
DYNSRC" tag is still supported with XP, IE, and the Media Player 10. Do
firewalls and security settings affect the used of the tag in IE?

When I rename the file extensions on my existing mpg files to avi, they
play just as well in the Windows players. So is this an issue too, the file
extension with the "IMG DYNSRC" tag? I am confused!

Again, thanks for the help!

Take care, Joe.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks for the reply!

Can you point me to an example of the best way to embed an mpeg so it would
work with most browsers, Windows 98 through XP, and all the Windows Media Players?

Thanks!!!

Take car4e, Joe.
