problems with OSX 10.4.2 and Windows Media Player |

WMP was working fine up until I recently upgraded to OSX 10.4.2
If I want to listen now to any WMP music clip in the internet, I get
the message: You do not have the plug-in needed to view the
"video/x-ms-asf" type information on this page. To get the plug-in now,
click view Plug-in page.
The funny thing is that that plug-in that I am supposed to download is
Windows Media Player 9, the same version that I currently have.
Are not OSX 10.4.2 and WMP 9 compatible with each other?
Why I can not make WMP to work in order to listen to those clips?
Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

I think,the reson is:Windows Media Player can't upgrade ,you can
restore
you system or delete the part you upgraded.sorry ,my english is not
well

The latest version of WMP for Mac is version 9. There is no other
upgrade available at this time.
I fear that the format offered for this specific stream is not supported
for us on WMP9 for Mac. By default, when the format is not supported,
many sites redirect us to a generic page that suggests that we upgrade
to a more recent version that would support the codecs - but such
upgrade is only available for Windows :-(
If you mean WMP is not compatible with 10.4.2, then I would have to say
it works fine under this version on my Mac. It looks like on some
systems, some settings are messed up in the upgrade process but I din't
see that on my Mac. Playing around with Garage Band for instance can
reset the proper Audio output settings that correct these problems, but
it doesn't look like that's the problem here.
