I drm protect the wma files and then sync that to a portable device ( hp
pocket pc and creative muvo).

I am able to play the files on the portable device.

The rights that I set are: Expiration date = 30/9/2005. But It keeps on
working on the portable device even after the expiration date.

..MinimumAppSecurity = 500
.AllowPlayOnPC = true
.AllowBackupRestore = true
.AllowTransferToSDMI = true
.Playcount = 2
.PMRights = 51
.PMAppSecurity = 150

'added for burning
.AllowPlaylistBurn = false
.PlaylistBurnTrackCount = 0

.ExpirationDate = "#20050930Z#"

.ExpirationAfterFirstUse = 01
.DisableOnClockRollback = True

My question is "The license never expires" It keeps on playing on the
Portable device. Do I need to change some settings to have the license rights
to be transfered to portable device.

Also the play count is set to "2". On the pc, the license expires after
playing twice, but on the pocket pc, the license does not expire.

thanks in advance,
Deshbandhu

You need to use the Windows Media Rights Manager version 10 which supports
these rights. Also the PC will need to be running WMP 10, and this only
works on "Janus enabled" portable devices.

First of all thanks a lot for replying.

I am using Windows Media Rights MAnager 10 and I have WMP 10 on my machine.

Both the devices that I used to test this are not janus enabled devices.
(creative muvo and hp ipaq).

Does this mean that any portable device which is not janus enabled will be
able to play the drm protected songs forever without expiring. And we have no
way to support a license management on these devices.(like a 30 day play
license).

The concern is there are so many devices already in the market which are not
janus enabled and we need to support all of them.

Let me know if there is a workaround to support a full rights management on
the portale devices (not janus enabled).

Thanks,
Deshbandhu

For my testing before, not so many janus enabled devices in the market now but they will become many and many worldwide.
In fact, wmdrm 10's right cannot apply to some old devices.
For the work around method, you may assign the security level=150.
The file can be synchronized both v1 and v7 drm portable devices.
However, for the old drm devices, although such file can be played but those v7 drm rules cannot be used.
