Windows Media Player and 16:9 compatibility |
|
|
Is there any way of utilising the whole 16:9 display using windows media
player on a widescreen laptop display. It's currently defaulting to a small
4:3 display...

it will depend on what the source aspect ratio is - if you've got 16:9
video, but letterboxed within a 4:3 frame (black bars top/bottom) then it
can zoom into that; but if you've got something like .wmv with 16:9 pixel
aspect ratio built in or a video with a wide physical ratio - it will fill
out the screen.

How would I "zoom" into this 16:9 in a 4:3 frame using windows media player
fullscreen mode?

I don't think you can. You can from within Windows Media Center, though, if
you happen to have XP MCE.

You could re-encode the whole movie cropping 80px up and down, but that's a
quite time consuming solution...

if it's a one off thing, you can use Zoomplayer - there's a demo version
available and by default the mouse wheel will zoom into the video.
