no matter what type of file i attempt to play on my wmp i get this
error message. im trying to play little movie clips that at one point
in time worked and now all of a sudden one day i get this error
message "the specified stream type is not recognized". i am playing
them directly from my HDD. i am really lost here. it baffles me
because they once did work. now nothing ?

any help will be appreciated. i dont really know how to use this
machine as far as navigating through it (this is my first mac in about
15 years)

You should try dleting the pref and .plist file from the Preferences
folder in your user account. That very often fixes the problem

Similar problems can occur if you renamed your hard drive using non
US_ASCII letters in the name of the drive (eg: accented letters).
