DVD decoder gone? |
|
|
I can no longer play DVD's on WMP10. Get message "no DVD decoder." It does
list title of DVD. I recently was prompted to delete unused files to free up
more space on my Sony Vaio FXA32 laptop, which I did. Using the file dates,
nothing I deleted appeared to have been used in the last two years. Did I
manage to delete the decoder? If so, how do I get it back? I'm not looking
for a freebie - I just want what I've already paid for, installed and run
before!
Any ideas?
By the way, I am not in the same location as the original install disks that
came with the laptop and cannot access them at this time.

You can't get back something that neve existed. WMP10 DID NOT come with a
DVD player/decoder. If you had that ability in the past then it was from a
plugin you downloaded/paid for or a different DVD player program.

I have been using media player to play dvds, although I never recall
specifically downloading or installing anything to decode them. At one point
I even formatted my hard disk, reinstalled windows XP home ed (and various
drivers for my nvida motherboard and chipset e.t.c.) and it played DVDs with
no problem.
Upon doing exactly the same thing again (formatting my had drive and
reinstalling the essentials) it appears that my DVD decoder has also
vanished.
Does anyone know how I can get back the one which I had before?

It would be on any recovery disks that came with your computer. Most
people get their DVD decoder preinstalled with the computer. If you
can't find that, then you'll simply have to replace it with a new one
from some vendor. |
