I use Windows XP. I downloaded some songs from WalMart.com. I want to burn
a CD using Roxio burning software. When I attempt to do so, I get the
following error message:

"The file you are accessing requires an additional level of security. In
order to play it, you will need to update your Microsoft Windows Media DRM
installation"

I installed Media Player v.10. I did some searches for DRM on microsoft.com
and downloaded a few things that I thought might help. But, I"m not very
knowledgable and I keep getting this error message. Can somebody point me to
a fix? I don't know how to update my DRM installation.

MANY THANKS!

Where? How? I can't see that they offer any songs, but only some encrypted
bunch of data that might turn into songs if you're willing to let them run
the WMDRM trojan horse on your computer. Usually I would call that fraud.

KB891122.

Lol. Sane people are trying hard to crack and/or remove it, and you don't
even know why you disabled the by default enabled auto-update mechanism?

Walmart.com is a priminent song provider. I downloaded from
http://musicdownloads.walmart.com/catalog/servlet/MainServlet

I have not clear on what you are communicating here. Please elaborate or
dumb down to layman's terms. If I was very knowledgable about these things,
I wouldn't need to post a question in this newsgroup. I would appreciate
help, not condescension.

I cannot say why my DRM installation needs to be "updated". All I know is
that's what the error message reads. I have attempted to rectify the problem
but continue getting the error message.... hence the reason for my posting.
I did not disable any XP auto-update mechanism. My auto-update is currently
on.

Didn't find anything there, except the short listenings. Using VC-1
reference decoder on VideoLanClient, so obviously, it's no WMA music
content as claimed. Fraud.

I already did: KB891122. It contains WMDSDK with the most recent build
(10.0.0.3802) of MS's DRM client software.

The reason is that it's out-of-date, requires an update and somehow can't
do this process on its own (no working inet connection, or some problem
there). The bigger reason is that you're using DRM, which is a collection
of harrasment, fraud, unwanted remote control and user limitation,
therefore the better solution would be avoiding this fuck at all.

I meant the DRM auto-update mechanism. Can be configured at Windows Media
Player's configuration panel and at Group Policy. Clearly, as you just got
the message to update your DRM installation, but didn't try to do it
automatically, it seems to be turned off.

Evert tried to reset your DRM installation?
Get http://www.napster.com/client/drmreset/DRM_reset.exe.

Any, the better solution would still be to skip such a lousy mess of
nonsense and search for a real online music provider with playable formats
and sane conditions, like allofmp3.com and alikes.

BTW, would you please learn how to quote correctly? :-)

Thanks for the napster DRM link. I used it, but it does not appear to have
solved my problem.

Also thanks for the allofMP3 website. You alluded to similar music
providers. Can you give me an idea of what sites you would put in the same
category?

And in case there should be any confusion as to who this was aimed at: it's meant for Sebastian.

I thought the smily should clearify that it's just a little hint besides.

Quote:
regarding their "disabilities" I presume you'll be more than happy to
help with claryfing this.

1. It's called attribution _line_, not _lines_. More than the name isn't
necessary. The msg-id is already told in the References-header and
interpreted there, so there's no need to state it again. Same for the
Subject and Sent. The eMail adress can also be easily retrieved from the
refered posting.

2. Quoting is meant to refer to some context, so only quote what you're
refering to, not the entire posting.

3. Therefore, the signature including the dash-dash-space delimiter should
not be quoted.

4. Usually, the answer is written _below_ the quoted statement, not above.

5. Unnecessary blank lines at the beginning and/or at the ending aren't
fine either.

Anyway, you can find this and many more good advice on almost any good
website regarding quoting on usenet, f.e.

Sebastian - don't forget, I would like your opinion on what sites in addition
to ALLOFMP3 offer sane, low-hassle music downloads. Would welcome anyone
else's recommendations, too.

Thanks.
