I saw some earlier posts where users complained that WMP9 does not work
well under Tiger. Is this still the case?

If I give it a shot, will installing WMP9 hurt anything if it does not
work?

How can I uninstall WMP9 for the Mac. (MS does not give uninstall
instructions for WMP. It does for IE but not WMP. That makes me
nervous).

Since I don't have Tiger, I don't know for sure. Some people have reported
issues, but not everyone has experienced them.

No, it shouldn't. It doesn't interact much with other applications.

Delete the Windows Media Player application folder as well as
"com.microsoft.mediaplayer.plist", "Windows Media Player Prefs", and
"Windows Media Favorites" files in ~/Library/Preferences. Note that you
might have to hold down the Alt/Option key while deleting to avoid problems
with locked items.

Thanks... I feel more comfortable that I can get rid of WMP if it
acts up under Tiger.

What about Internet Plugins? Is there a Windows Media Plug-in for WMP
that I need to delete as well? Would it be located in
HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder?

I guess I could check when I install and uninstall WMP.

Other peope have reported it, but the app runs just as before on my Mac
(and the several others I have access to here).

Yep.
And I would recommend trashing the pref and plist for WMP that are in
~/Library/Preferences/ in your user folder.

I apologize for asking a dumb question. But what are locked items?
And why would an item be locked?

I normally just empty the trash but it looks like when I remove IE I
must empty the trash from the Dock with the Alt/Option key pressed.

I have no idea why they decided to lock items. The sole purpose of this
is to make sure the files won't be trashed or modified "by mistake".

Completely useless here as far as I am concerned.

Good idea, I forgot to include that. Yes, that's the correct location.

Don't be a baby. It will be fine. But what Microsoft doesn't realize is
that Windows Media Player is the most unreliable source of video on the
internet. You can't even watch video clips online at NBC News or ABC news's
website without running into a problem. I wish everyone used Quicktime, then
the World would be much better. The least Microsoft could do right now is
make their player so that it actually plays movies and doesn't take forever
to buffer on a high speed connection, Update the program and make it so it
doesn't play choppy movies.

But that will never happen.
Microsoft is too slow with their updates anyways.
