Embedded WMP causes browser to crash |
|
|
Whenever I open a web page with an embedded movie such as .wmv the browser
crashes, both IE and Firefox. I have WMP10 and IE6 with all updates. Is this
a known error? Please Help.

Hey just wondering if you have found a fix for this yet? I have the
same problem for a while now @ first I noticed videos not playing, then
eventually any page i went to with embedded video just crashes any
browser(IE,FireFox,Netscape). At first I thought it was just
www.myspace.com cuz it kept crashing there but now I noticed since most
of the users have embedded video on their profiles ill try to stop it or
change page and my browser will freeze... good luck im still looking
will post if I fine ne thing. Later Greg

I had the same problem and found a solution.
WMP uses the conection settings from IE, even if it's playing videos as
a plugin in FireFox.
For me, the problem was that somehow my proxy settings in got changed.
To see if you have the same problem; open IE, go to TOOLS > INTERNET
OPTIONS > CONNECTIONS (tab) > click LAN SETTINGS... take a look at your
proxy settings. Changing mine back to "Automatically detect settings"
fixed my problem (after rebooting).
Hope this helps.
