When will we get a WMP that will support more DRM versions?! |

I have never felt so neglected in all my life as I have with this version of
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac that hasn't been updated in nearly two years,
despite a supposed commitment on the part of Microsoft to provide support for
a "variety of operating system environments." Last time I checked, a
commitment meant that you were expected to follow through on something; just
talking about it doesn't cut it.
I realize that it's a free product, and therefore I recognize that it's a
bit out of line to get annoyed about it, but more and more sites are offering
content that I can no longer access because the Windows Media Player for
Macintosh does not support DRM over version 1.3. And since the Windows Media
Player for Mac OS X FAQ states (
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/Macintosh/osx/faq.aspx#1_4
) states that they are going to continue to develop the WMP for Mac, I think
it's reasonable to ask: WHEN can we expect some kind of update?
Does anyone at Microsoft even read these forums? Does anyone that reads
them have any suggestions on whom we could write to in order to get this
thing happening? I've submitted a "wish" for this on multiple occasions, and
all I ever find is that,"At this time, we have no announcements to make about
when an upgrade to Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X will be available."
I charge that Microsoft is not living up to its stated commitment to provide
"digital media technology that offers the best digital audio and video
playback for a variety of operating system environments." Too bad that they
can issue some meaningless statement and not have any accountability for it.

Yeah, well it's kind of like American car manufacturers: when they actually
make a product that I find appealing instead of the horsey, bloated and
sluggish crap that they continue to churn out with the obvious indifference
of those who can produce inferior goods because they know the average Joe
doesn't really have any other options, I would be happy to consider it.
Until then, only when they pry it out of my cold, dead hands.

That's about all you can do.
I also tried to see whether I could find a contact through the MVP
program and never got anywhere.
I'm quite sure things would be quite different if the software was
ported by the MacBU, but it's not the case. I don't knwo for sure who
does the porting but I suspect it's some developers of the Windows WMP
team.
